Implementation of the Improvement of the Current Examination System of all Programmes where Examinations are Conducted by the South African Nursing Council

 

PURPOSE

The purpose of this circular is to inform providers of Nursing Education and Training, Provincial Departments of Health and stakeholders about the implementation of improvement on the current examination system of all programmes where examinations are conducted by the South African Nursing Council.  This is done in order to:

minimise and eliminate the security risk associated with examinations, including setting papers, typing, packing and dispatching (internally), distribution (externally), invigilation and security of examination papers and scripts in transit.
reduce the time for the processing of examinations and publication of examination results.

 

IMPLEMENTATION

The Council, at its meeting of 28-29 March 2012, approved the implementation of the improvement of the current examination system of all programmes where examinations are conducted by the South African Nursing Council as stated below:

Changing of examination schedules from three times a year to two times a year (May and November)
Reducing the number of examination centres in metropolitan cities, but retaining existing examination centres in remote areas
Centralising the marking of examination scripts per province
Extending the period for the moderation of examination scripts from five days to ten days.

 

This circular is applicable from 1 January 2013.
